Samanvaya is a public charitable trust founded on December 15, 1998 in order to establish a research oriented institution promoting inter-religious harmony and empowering the economically backward people. It is the brainchild of a team of scholars who felt that human development can only be achieved through truth, justice, peace and harmony among the diverse people of India and that strategies must be planned to achieve a sustainable transformation of the society where there is always inter-religious, communal and cultural harmony.
Vision: The specific mission of Samanvaya is based on its vision of an all round transformation of society in which a variety of cultures co-exist, resulting in justice, peace and harmony among the people and protection and promotion of balance in nature
Ever since the inception of the Samanvaya on December 15, 1998, it has undertaken various activities and programmes based on its aims and objectives to further its vision. It has conducted / jointly organized with other NGOs 595 training programmes, symposia, field visits etc. involving 45,151 participants as on April 29, 2006 out of which 21,636 were male and 23,515 were female, through its five units, i.e., 1) Social and Developmental 2) Inter-religious 3) Cultural 4) Educational 5) Publication and Research. It has been instrumental in imparting knowledge in various fields and enlightening people on various issues, forging unity among the people, encouraging questioning minds and helping the individuals in developing their latent skills. Its trainings, some of them residential, have been on various developmental themes such as, 1) Agriculture, Horticulture and Floriculture 2) Organic Farming 3) Jasmine Cultivation 4) Environment Protection and Environmental Issues 5) Soil and Water Conservation 6) Watershed Management 7) Dairy and Animal Husbandry 8) Women's Empowerment 9) Information Technology 10) Human Resource Development 11) Leadership and Personality Development 12) Value-based Development 13) Value Based Folk Art Stage Performances 14) Inter-Religious Harmony and Peace 15) Integrated Rural Development 16) Job Opportunities 17) Micro-Enterprises 18) Photography 19) Artificial Flower Making 20) Indoor Gardening 21) Bakery Products 22) Doll Making 23) Hanigavana 24) Short Story Writing 25) Glass Painting 26) Holistic Yoga 27) Naturopathic Healing 28) Mehendi Designing 29) Ham Radio Operation 30) Masters of Ceremony 31) Writers' Meet 32) Globalization 33) Team Building 34) Gender Relations 35) Anti-Corruption 36) Motivation and Capacity Building etc. Samanvaya has also given social and emergency relief to the rural needy people towards the construction of toilets, repairs of houses etc. and also family sponsorships. Scholarships have been offered to bright and poor students with the goodwill of sponsors
Collaborations: Samanvaya has collaborated with other NGOs in the social development field, in helping the deserving students belonging to economically backward families to continue their education, giving medical assistance to the underprivileged, training social activists through seminars / workshops etc. During the period it has collaborated with the Konkani Cultural Organization (KCO) Abu Dhabi, Kit Richy Trust Karkal, Asha Kiran Trust Mangalore, Lotus of Nirala Trust, Moodbidri, Jagrit Bharath, Mangalore, Sahakar Trust, Mangalore, Dakshina Kannada Milk Producer’s Society, Mangalore, Adarsh Society, Moodbidri.
Publications: It has published 5 books in English, 5 in Kannada, and 7 in Konkani. The services of the Samanvaya staff have been availed off by various NGOs, Government departments, Commercial establishments and several individuals on a regular basis as experts and resource persons.
Future Plans: Samanvaya will continue to work harder towards the fulfilment of its mission by enlightening the people on social, cultural and religious issues so that religious, social and cultural unity can be forged, resulting in the emergence of a just, equitable, peaceful and harmonious society. It will continue net working with other NGOs and associations. It will also assist the poor brilliant students with the scholarships.
