November 10th 2008:Samanvaya NGO of Mangalore started its Fourth 6 months’ free Tailoring cum Embroidery Course in memory of late Fr Bernard D’souza at Sastan Church hall on November 07, 2008 for the benefit of women of the locality. Rev. Fr Vincent Martis, parish priest of Sastan Parish inaugurated the course by lighting the lamp and cutting the ribbon. In his inaugural address, he recollected glorious days that he had spent with Fr Bernard D’Souza in Kirem parish.


Rev. Dr Ronald Cutinha, director of Samanvaya narrated the history and social activities of Samanvaya. Rev. Dr Pius Pinto the managing trustee of Samanvaya, revealed the reason for starting such free tailoring cum embroidery courses in the nooks and corners of Mangalore diocese in view of empowering women. Mrs Leena Roche the president of Mangalore Diocesan Catholic Council of Women spoke on the occasion.


Mrs Elsie Lewis president of Women Association of Sastan parish welcomed, Mrs Cynthia D’Souza proposed vote of thanks and Mrs Janet Banz compered. 20 women enrolled their names for Tailoring and Embroidery course. The vice president of Sastan parish Mr Sylvester D’Souza, Kallianpur varado women representative Mrs Cynthia Dias, the president of Barkur Women Association Mrs Eugene Quadras and the Tailoring cum Embroidery teacher Mrs Dora were present on the occasion.
