Mangalore:“The active participation in Democracy is only through the Panchayat Raj system. Success of Democracy lies in Panchayat Raj, which is the undivided part of Democracy. Village Panchayat members being elected by the people for local governance are an essential link between villagers and the Government.  Improving quality of life of village folk is the most essential task of Panchayat members. To do this effectively the members must go through the process of constant trainings on value based politics” said Rev. Dr Ronald Cutinha, the director of Samanvaya after inaugurating the seminar on Panchayat Raj in Democracy by lighting the lamp. The seminar was organized by Samanvaya Mangalore and Xavier ITC, Asaigoli at Xavier ITC hall on December 21, 2009.

The renowned social activist and famous lawyer Mr Shirtadi William Pinto was the resource person. He imparted inputs on local self government. He explained the value of each citizen in the democratic set up as the bearer of one vote and hence all are equal.  Unlike the military rule, dictatorship, hereditary rule and religions regime, Panchayat Raj is best in its nature offering freedom to each and every citizen to live with dignity, justice and truth.

The principal of Xavier ITC Mr Sudheer Kotian welcomed and introduced the guests. Lecturer Mr Sunil Crasta proposed vote of thanks and Mr Shivananda compeered. 106 students along with 11 staff members participated in this seminar.
