Mangalore: The Celebration of Giving—the dedication  of the TREASURE ISLAND of TEXAS, a magnanimous gift by Mr Max & Jessie Rasquinha and Family from Houston, Texas took place on 9th Oct at the AIMIT campus of St Aloysius College (autonomous), Mangalore.  The programme began at 11 am with the ALOYSIAN HOME BAND playing the marches and other tunes as the gathering of guests was led by Mr Max Rasquinha to the entrance of the Admin Block of AIMIT at Beeri, Kotekar.  Fr Ronnie Prabhu SJ, former Rector of St Aloysius College,  Fr Denzil Lobo Sj, Director, AIMIT and Fr Ozwald Mascarenahs SJ,  Chairman, MBA dept, AIMIT led the gathering of students and invited guests.

In his welcome speech Mr Raquinha spoke very emotionally about the act of GIVING. He said, “We do not take anything when we leave this world. And in giving we find true happiness.” He welcomed the gathering. Students of St Mary’s Girls High School sang Vande Mataram. Fr Ronnie Prabhu SJ felicitated and praised Mr Max Rasquinha for his magnanimous gift towards his alma mater, St Aloysius College. Mrs Shirley Pereira, sister of Fr Denzil Lobo, rendered the Jim Reeves song “PRECIOUS LORD”. 

Mr. Rasquinha called upon Fr Denzil Lobo SJ to cut the ribbon and inaugurate the “TREASURE ISLAND OF TEXAS”—A MUSUEM OF artifacts from over hundred Countries of the world, collected during the last 30 years—a very precious gift by the Rasquinha family to AIMIT, St Aloysius College. The museum is located in the admin block and is a feast to the eyes.

The formal inaugural was followed by the raising of the toast by Toastmaster Dr. Vina Vasvani followed by snacks.

The AWARDS FUNCTION was held in the air-conditioned auditorium of AIMIT. Fr D
enzil Lobo SJ sang the song by ABBA : ”I Have a Dream”, a favourite song of Mr Max Rasquinha. The installation of the office bearers of five GAVEL CLUBS then followed. Four Gavel Clubs from SDM College, Mangalore and one from St Joseph’s Engineering College, were installed by Mr. Max Rasquinha. That was followed by the Installation of the Club Officers, a simple and effective ceremony conducted by Mr. Max Rasquinha. He  read out the pledge to the officers, each of them came forward, took the pledge by saying "I DO" and were given the Charter Certificate by the Division governor, TM M N Pai  and the ribbon by Area governor TM Malinia Hebbar  and . that  was followed by the Acceptance speech by each of the club presidents.

At the end of the installation ceremony, Mr. Max Rasquinha spoke of the special role America has towards India and the friendship and goodness there is among the people of America. He also spoke of the thousands of our youth studying and working in that country, and many more who are working in India supporting the business and other enterprises due to their contribution to the software industry. He then sang very emotionally the song “ God Bless America”, the Country which has given him and many other Indians good standing and success, and which has helped him to come back to India regularly and GIVE BACK what he received throughout his life.

This was followed by the Awards ceremony. Fr. Ronnie Prabhu SJ did the honor of handing over the trophies to the awardees. Fr Denzil Lobo SJ, for being the Outstanding Communicator for the year 2010; Dr Jacintha D’Souza for here Outstanding Community Leadership for the year 2010; Ms Anita Cordeiro for being the Outstanding Executive for the year 2010; Ms Savitha Basri, Outstanding Co-coordinator of Gavel Club  for the Year 2010; Mr. Dayananda Kukkaje, the Outstanding Photographer of the year; Ms Lorraine D’Souza, for being Outstanding mentor in the eyar 2010; Ms Malini Hebbar for being the Outstanding Toastmaster for  the year 2010 and Ms Trishna Pinto for being the Outstanding Gavellier for the year 2010.

This was followed by the award of Trophy to Late Wilfy Rebimbus. He was  honored and his son Vishwas accepted the award and spoke a few words to thank Max Rasquinha and request the audience to continue to support and encourage him.

The keynote address was delivered by Anita Cordeiro to motivate the Gavel club officers and gravellier to rise up as leaders. The SDM college students gave a wonderful dance performance and then the group rose to sing the National Anthem before moving to the dining area for a sumptuous lunch.

The program was coordinated and compeered by Trishma Pinto along with Max Rasquinha. The programme ended with the National Anthem.
