Bantwal: In memory of late Fr. Bernard D’Souza, ‘Samanvaya’ NGO in association with Sahodaya Bethany Seva Kendra of Mangalore inaugurated a free Tailoring Course on 2nd December at Guddeangadi, in Bantwal Taluk.  This is a course of 6 months duration exclusively for the benefit of women folk of the locality and is 9th such course offered by Samanvaya.

Kum. Latha, a well known social worker of the area working under Sahodaya Bethany Seva Kendra, introduced and welcomed the guests after a prayer song.  Rev. Dr Ronald Cutinha spoke of the concern late Fr Bernard had for the poor, especially the women. By narrating a simple moral story, he convinced the gathering the importance of the tailoring course which will be of genuine use in their lives.  Sr. Prema Gonsalves,  Co-ordinator, Sahodaya Bethany Seva Kendra, stressed on the need of ‘women empowerment’ and advised the participants to make the best use of the facility made available in their village and try to change their lives to become self-reliant atleast to some extent.  Besides, Rev. Ronald Cutinha and Sr. Prema,   Mr Sadashiva, owner of the Building, has been kind in giving a ‘rent-free’ Hall for conducting the tailoring course.  Credit for arranging suitable place for holding the Tailoring Classes, goes to Mr Achabba.  Smt. Sefia, President, Nityanidhi Self Help Group co-ordinated with the local women and encouraged them to join the classes.
Kum. Latha conducted the entire programme beautifully and also delivered vote of thanks. Seated on the dais were, Rev. Fr. Ronald Cutinha, Sr. Prema G., Ms. Sajida, Mr Achabba, Mr Vittal (brother of Mr Sadashiva) and Ms Jacintha Pinto,  lit the Lamp to mark the inaugural function.  Kum. Sajida the Tailoring Teacher was on the dais.  There were more than 50 people in attendance for the inauguration and all arrangements have been made to commence classes from 3rd December 20l0 for which 25 candidates have enrolled themselves to attend the classes on regular basis.
