Mangalore: Daijiworld weekly launches ‘Swabhiman Awards’ for physically challenged persons

Mangalore: Daijiworld weekly, the subsidiary of ‘ in print edition and the only English weekly published from Coastal Karnataka, has announced ‘Swabhiman Awards’ on the occasion of its second anniversary.
According to a press communiqué released by Hemacharya, Editor in chief of the weekly, the awards shall carry a cash reward of Rs 100,000 in addition to a citation and a trophy. Persons of Indian origin belonging to any region and religion, of any age group and irrespective of any type of physical disability shall be qualified for the award. 
The awards shall be given to such persons who have achieved any significant feet at national or international level in spite of their physical disability. The last date to receive nominations will be March 31, 2011. The awards shall be presented during Daijiworld weekly second anniversary celebrations in Mangalore in May 2011.

The persons themselves or their well wishers may apply for the award by furnishing minimum documentary evidence in support of their candidature. They may include any document certifying the kind of disability in addition to any evidence of the achievement of the candidate. The Jury, appointed by the weekly, eminent personalities from different professions, shall verify the facts before finalising the awards. They may carry out the audits to verify and confirm the stated facts at any location, if required.  
It should be noted that Daijiworld weekly, the only English weekly published from the coastal city of Karnataka is in its second year of publication. Within a short span of time the weekly has gained ground and popularity among all sections of readers in India and abroad. It is now available in all the prestigious book stores in all major cities in India and abroad.
“Besides publishing English weekly, one of our primary objectives was to reach out to the needs and aspirations of our people irrespective of caste, community or language” says Editor in Chief, Hemacharya in his press communiqué. “its our mission to go beyond the role of a journalistic career, by touching the hearts of our people, less privileged in particular, and this award is a significant step in that direction” he says.
