Mangalore:  Distribution of free Sewing Machines at Samanvaya A few were fortunate to have received free sewing machines distributed by the Society of St Vincent de Paul (SSVP), St Francis Xavier Conference, Ferar on 8-8-2011 at Samanvaya Hall.  The beneficiaries were ten women of diverse religions and from various villages, who were trained and passed the tailoring-cum-embroidery course conducted by Samanvaya and genuinely deserving and desirous of earning their living out of it.

Rev. Fr Ronald Cutinha, the Mangalore Diocesan Director of the SSVP welcomed the gathering and remembered the patron saint who had great concern to the very poor and helped them with food and clothing.  His mission was carried on by Frederick Ozanam by starting the Society after St Vincent de Paul which has not only spread world over but is also well known for its tremendous charitable activities towards the downtrodden in the society. St Francis Xavier Conference of SSVP, Ferar has done a marvelous act in offering free new sewing machines to the poor women thus giving them a new lease of life. Bro. Gilbert Pinto, Vice President of SSVP Central Council who continues to serve the Society whole-heartedly, re-dedicated himself for the service of the poor.  He said he is delighted to see that the facility is reaching the deserving ones and wished the beneficiaries a happier future.

Rev. Fr Pius Fidelis Pinto, Spiritual Advisor of Ferar Conference was immensely happy that he could extend help to a few of the women tailors trained by Samanvaya in various villages. He expressed his desire of starting a tailoring course in his parish and expects some of the lady tailors who attended tailoring courses conducted by Samanvaya, to visit and give their opinions to Ferar students.  An expert tailor herself, Sr Mabel D’Souza UFS, Women’s Co-ordinator of Samanvaya gave a few important tips on the usage of their newly acquired sewing machines and advised them to make good use of it for their better future.  Sr Prema Gonsalves B.S., Co-ordinator of Sahodaya Bethany Social Service Centre, who is the collaborator of Samanvaya in organizing free tailoring courses to the poor women, was immensely happy for the ten women selected from each of the tailoring courses conducted by Samanvaya in various villages for becoming proud owners of new sewing machines and wished them a brighter future.

Vice president of Ferar Conference Mrs Flavia Sequeira was present on this occasion.  Mrs Jessy D’Souza, President of Bajpe Area Council of SSVP in her vote of thanks lauded the contribution of Fr Ronald Cutinha and appreciated his concern to enhance the activities so that it can reach out with service to farther areas and thanked him for all the guidance and support to the Society. She also thanked Fr Pius Fidelis Pinto, parish priest of Ferar church for taking the initiative for the generous act of today, within a short span of taking over responsibility of his parish.  She also appreciated his future plans of SSVP for the poor and the needy.  She thanked Mr Gilbert Pinto for his tireless service to the SSVP and for having graced the function.  She also expressed her gratitude to Sr Mabel, and Sr Prema for their words of advise to the proud beneficiaries of the new sewing machines.  Finally she thanked everyone gathered to witness the occasion. Fr Ronald Cutinha compered the entire programme and provided a delicious treat to all as a befitting conclusion of the function.
