Mumbai: Auxiliary Bishop of Mumbai Most Rev Percevial Fernandes released new New Konkani religious album "Taram Gitam (Darshan)" yesterday at Prabodhan Thakrey Hall Borivli. This music album is produced by Konkan Taram group Jarimari. The lyrics and tunes in this album are composed by talented youngster John Mascarenhas. The CD release programme was organised by Canara Konkani Welfare Association Borivli (Regd) before the Wilfy Nite function held in the same hall. Albert Wilfred D'Souza, George D'Souza, Meena Rebimbus, Fr. Vincent Barboza, Charles D'Cunha and Gilbert D'Lima were present at the dias along with the composer John Mascarenhas

The same album was released at Jarimari, the home parish of the author on 23 Oct 2011 at 6.30 pm. The author and composer Mr. John Mascarenhas was honoured with the title KALARATNA AWARD during this occasion.

The Konkani Association "KONKAN TARAM – JERIMERI, MUMBAI" has been taking active part in all Social, Cultural and Liturgical activities of St. Jude parish since last 20 years.  The organizers of Konkani Choir group, under the leadership of John Mascarenhas and several others had formed the association in the year 1991, on 1st September.  Thereafter helping the poor, Sick and Needy, with other social activities, the association has been organizing several Konkani shows to promote Konkani language in the parish. As a continued activity, this year they have released “TARAM GITAM (Darshan)” a New Devotional CD for which John R. Mascarenhas has composed new hymns and Benjamin Miranda and film playback musicians arranged very harmonious music.  Famous singers like Dr. Prashanth Raj (Mangalore), Vinay Lewis (Gulf Voice award winner from Kalyanpur ) and other Mumbai Singers like John Mascarenhas, Anthony Tauro, Nephie Rod,, Franky D'Souza, Sunita D'Souza, Flora D'souza, Melony Cordeiro, Ashley Coutinho, Joseph D'Souza, Eliza D'Souza, Mercin Miranda, Juliana Mascarenhas and  Konkan Taram Members contributed their melodious singing. Auxiliary Bishop of Bombay Rt.Rev.Bishop Percival J.E.Ferandes appreciated the Hymns and granted imprimatur to sing the Hymns anywhere for devotional purpose.
During the past Konkan Taram had honoured with their  ‘Kalaratna Award’  to several great personalities  like Dr. Charles Vaz SVD, Dr. Francis Barboza, Sunny A. D’Souza, Henry D’Souza, Lawrence Saldanha, Jerome D’Souza, Benjamin Miranda, Nephie Rod, William Machado, Melwyn Pais and others.  This year they honoured with their “Kalaratna Award’, with Man Patr, Traditional Shawl and a Gift  to John R. Mascarenhas for his 25 years of Konkani Service in Literature, Music and Art.   

Sangeet Samrat HENRY D'Souza, Jarimari Parish Priest Fr. Nelson Saldanha CKAB Vice Chairman George D'Souza, Divo Editor Lawrence Coelho, Choir Master Charles D'Cunha, Musician Benjamin Miranda and Sister Anita were present on the dais.

Flora D'Souza - Secretary,  Walter D'Souza ( Advisor of Committee ),  George Furtado ( President ),  John Veigas ( Vice President ) honoured the guests.  President of association welcomed the guests, Franky D'Souza presented Man Patr., Lawrence D'Souza Kamani and Mrs. Suzan Coelho presented the memento.  Secretary gave vote of thanks and Miss Joylin D'Souza compered the programme.
