Calcutta: It was a novel experience for the teachers of St Francis School, Guma, Calcutta to have had a workshop on 31st October and 1st November 2011 by the resource persons all the way from Mangalore.  This goes to show that Samanvaya is spreading its wings to other parts of our country from its earlier focus in and around Mangalore.

A team of resource persons under the leadership of Sr Lilly Fernandes, Counselor General & Secretary of the Ursuline Franciscan Educational Society landed in Calcutta where they conducted a 2-day workshop for teachers in St Francis School, Guma.  Prior to this, they had conducted similar workshops in Nagaland and Aizwal.  Sr Lilly Fernandes spoke on the role between Teacher-Student, Teacher-Parent, Teacher-School Management and Teacher & colleagues.  She elaborately spoke on how their relationship should be and the dealings with each other in order to have a harmonious learning atmosphere for students.  Dr Cutinha in his training to teachers convinced of the diplomacy which is essential not only in giving education but also in day to day activities of the school. Creating future leaders with moral values should be the motto of teachers, he said. In his simple narration, he kept the teachers attentive, with humorous examples, appropriate short stories, and interaction.  Powerpoint presentation made the training/learning easy and convincing.  There were also group discussions and plenary wherein problems faced by teachers were shared and solutions found for efficiency in their profession.

Earlier, Principal of the School, Sr Philomena Fernandes inaugurated the programme. School Manager, Sr Jaya Joseph was on the dais. Sr Lidwin Fernandes welcomed the guests and audience.  All teachers in attendance thanked Dr Cutinha and Sr Lilly Fernandes profusely for enlightening them of their great responsibility towards students. They also welcomed more such sessions in future in their school as well as elsewhere in that part of our vast country.
