Mangalore: Urban Poverty Alleviation Cell under Mangalore City Corporation (MCC), conducted a day’s motivational training in Book Keeping to Resident Community Volunteers(RCVs) of Swarna Jayanthi Shahari Rozgar Yojana  (SJSRY) on13th February 2012 at Samanvaya Hall, Urwastores, Mangalore.

Mrs Malini Rodrigues, Community Affairs Officer, SJSRY introduced and welcomed to the dais Rev. Dr Ronald Cutinha, Director of Samanvaya,  Mr Chittaranjan Das, Community Development Expert, Urban Poverty Alleviation Cell under Mangalore City Corporation (MCC), Sr Prema Gonsalves, Co-ordinator of Sahodaya Bethany Sewa Kendra Mangalore and Mrs Chandrakala, President of Community Development Society-South (MCC), who together inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp.

Mrs Malini Rodrigues took the stage for training the RCVs in maintenance of book keeping in Self Help Groups. She explained the participants all 11 modules required to be followed in the procedure by them. They were also convinced of giving importance to maintaining the attendance and proceeding records and the cash book so that there is transparency of records.

Dr Ronald Cutinha who is a renowned Resource Person in the local dialect emphasized the need for leadership in society and inspired the RCVs to take on greater responsibilities.  During the post noon session he motivated the participants with his inspirational speech with appropriate illustrations and PowerPoint presentation.  Group discussions, group dynamics and exhibition of leadership skills were the backbone of the workshop.  The trainees showed keen interest and took part with the least inhibitions. Earlier Sr Prema Gonsalves prepared the trainees for the activity and made them feel at ease by cheering them up with songs and games and brought them to the comfort level.  Mr Mr Chittaranjan Das, Community Development Expert, Urban Poverty Alleviation Cell under Mangalore City Corporation (MCC), also spoke on the occasion and advised the RCVs to practice the inspiration they received for themselves and spread it for others around them.

The feedback was very positive and 48 participants were inspired so much that the general opinion expressed was that such workshop should have been conducted long before by which a lots of good would have been achieved by the under privileged.  However the trainees were so impressed that they expected more such programmes for them and left the hall with a revived spirit to contribute more to the society and play responsible role in achieving the target of the SJSRY with more vigour.
