Mangalore: Society of St. Vincent De Paul turns into Silver at Barkur

The Silver Jubilee of the foundation of the SSVP Conference at Barkur parish under the area council of Udupi was celebrated on December 2, 2007 at the parish hall.

The parish priest of Barkur Rev. Fr. Remegius Aranha inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp and appraised their selfless service to the needy, marginalized and downtrodden. The chief guest and diocesan director of the society Rev. Dr. Ronald Cutinha guided the participants on commitment, dedication, justice and charity, the most basic essentials, which every vicenzian must possess. The Central Council president Bro. Gilbert Pinto, director of Ozanam House for the Aged Bro. Gregory D’sa, parish vice president Mr Harold D’souza and Udupi Area Council president Bro. Walter Monteiro delivered their messages.

Initially, the president of Barkur conference, Bro. Maxim Sequeira welcomed and  Bro. Augustine Saldanha initiated the newly joined members. Bros. Patrick D’silva and Fedrick Sequeira read the silver report of the conference and annual report of the area council respectively. Bro. Patrick D’almeida, secretary of the conference thanked. Later on, the members reached the church by procession and offered Holy Eucharist led by Rev. Dr. Ronald Cutinha. There were around 250 members of St. Vincent De Paul Society from the neighbouring parishes under the Udupi area council.
