Multiple Celebration at Samanvaya

Mangalore Dec 16, 2007: Samanvaya Mangalore, and, United Kingdom harmoniously feted their anniversaries at Samanvaya Urwastores on December 16, 2007. Samanvaya, A public charitable and educational trust that completed its 9 years, inaugurated its decennial celebrations while, celebrated their third Anniversary.



The scheduled programme commenced at 10 am with a religious hymn "Jezu Tuje Naavm", by Sr. Prema & Sr. Monica of Bethany convent. 

Rev.Dr.Ronald Cutinho heartily welcomed the assemblage and familiarized all the honorable guests to the audience. In his welcome speech, he expressed his joy to witness the active participation of all the well wishers and guests who were invited to join this celebration. All the guests were welcomed and honored with a flower as they were introduced to the audience. 





The event was formally inaugurated with the lighting of the lamp by the guests.

Rev.Dr.Pius Pinto Managing Trustee of Samanvaya addressed the gathering and expressed his 9 years of valuable past experience at Samanvaya. Recalling the past life as a seminarian to the priesthood and social work at Samanvaya, he reminisced his friendship with Rev.Dr.Ronald Cutinha when they were in the Seminary and their religious barriers. 

When he was transferred to a village called Nidpalli and worked with the less fortunate people of that village, he was inspired to engage in social work. Their meet with Mother Theresa in Kolkota further encouraged them to pursue their very thought of establishing a research oriented institution to promote inter-religious harmony and empowering the economically backward people. Their dream became reality with the formation of Samanvaya on December 15, 1998. Rev.Dr. Pius Pinto also remembered late Shivanna and late Fr.Bernard D'Souza who inspired and motivated them to initiate this institution. While thanking the Bishop of Mangalore for his support towards the institution he informed that more than 400 students have been offered scholarships to pursue their education and Samanvaya has conducted more than 685 training programmes, symposiums and field visits so far.


Sr.Doreen D'Souza, the Superior General of Ursuline Congregation unveiled the decennial plans of Samanvaya. She said that she is not only pleased of the entire events but also will continue to extend her support to Samanvaya for noteworthy cause in the years to come. 


Raj Francis Pereira, the founder of, gave a brief introduction about of the web portal and introduced his website and its activities to the audience. He said has not only strived to promote Konkani in the last three years but also have made aware of our language Konkani to at least 200 British families in UK". 

Though he expressed his sadness about his mother Agnes Gladies Pereira, his wife Reshma Lobo and Son Raul Franklin Pereira's unavailability for this ceremony due to inevitable circumstances, he thanked God for giving him the time to meet all these shining stars at once as a part of Konkani family. He also said that it is the privilege for the to honor and reward the "Konkan Star" Awards for the noteworthy people due to their achievements and also the 12 best writers of the year for the qualitative contributions.

Francy also shared the need for the new website which was launched on 16th December. He said that he has put his HR experience where the writings will now be reviewed and commented by the General Public who will in turn give their opinions and ratings. This will create a transparent review of every postings posted in and will help the committee to reward & recognize the best and most deserving writers in an unbiased manner. 


He also thanked Samanvaya and Dirvem Magazine for their continual support and the development in publishing 22 columns so far. He thanked his parents Mr. D.L.Pereira & Mrs. Agnes Gladies Pereira for making him capable person in this society, His father in Law Mr. Remigius Lobo & Mrs. Gracy Lobo for being a source of inspiration. Editor of Dirvem John Monis re-launched the website with a new look.


Raj Francis Pereira, personally congratulated and felicitated all 17 Konkani personalities. Sr.Dorine D'Souza, Judith Mascarenhas, Shirtady William Pinto and Rev.Dr.Ronald Cutinha for their contributions to social service, Sr.Maria Jyothi Philipines and Padmini Pai Australia who were not present at the function were represented by their well-wishers.







Prof.Alban Castellino, Victor Rodrigues, Dr.Edward L Nazareth, Dr.Gerald Pinto Udupi, J F D'Souza were honored for their literary service. Dolphy Cascia and Dr.Austin Prabhu USA could attend this ceremony. Dr. Austin Prabhu sent a message which was read before the audience. Their awards were received by their representatives.





Jokim Pereira, Rev.Dr.Charles Vaz were awarded for their contributions to music. Rev.Dr.Pius Fidelis Pinto and Dr.Michael Lobo were honored for their research studies. 




Shirtady William Pinto and Judith Mascarenhas spoke on behalf of the awardees. Judith Mascarenhas said that these "Konkan Star" awards are seen for the first time in the history of


the web world & they are pleased to receive them from the pioneers of such notable thought committee people United Kingdom. Jacintha D'Souza introduced the awardees to the gathering.








Konkani announced the winners of authors of various columns including poetry. Austin Prabhu, Chicago, USA, for his poetry 'Rakeam Bharath Bhoomi' Clara Fernandes for her poetry 'Vidov' Manu Bahrain for his poetry 'Poili Raat', Jacintha D'Souza Mumbai for her short story 'Niskollponn' Shalini Valencia for her translated story 'Nimannem Kumsar,' Stan Agera Mulky for his short story, 'Xezarachea Ghara', Ancy Paladka Mumbai for his Konkani essay 'Konknieak Fuddar Asa', Francis Furtado Mumbai for his feature on 'Amcha Gaoncho Roce' and J P Saldanha Beltangady for his article 'Dev Amche Sangatha Asa' were honored while Rev.Dr.Ronald Cutinha, for his thought provoking weekly thoughts, Marcel D'Souza, for his 'Neticheo Katha', Dr.Gerald Pinto Udupi, "Vesavea Xatamanache Mhaan Konkani Monis' were felicitated by Rev.Dr.John Fernandes. 

Fr Pius Fidelis Pinto, trustee of 'Samanvaya' proposed vote of thanks. He thanked the Bishop of Mangalore Diocese Most Reverent Dr. Aloysius D'souza for his continual support and encouragement in Samanvaya activities. He also remembered gratefully the owner of the campus Late Mrs. Louisa Monica Lobo and her son Kenneth Lobo who is presently residing in Canada for availing the facility of Samanvaya Campus. Aloysius D'Souza brilliantly compeered the entire programme.
