New Delhi:“Let all spiritual leaders connect hands to establish a better future,” inspired Archbishop of Bombay, Cardinal Oswald Gracias here in New Delhi, on Tuesday, Jan. 22.

Cardinal Gracias was addressing at the debut occasion of the Global Foundation for Civilizational Harmony [GFCH] at the Chinmaya Mission, New Delhi.

“India is in need of civilization of harmony, Asia is in need of civilization of harmony. Religions can bring people together,” announced Cardinal Gracias.

“There is so much that is common in religions, of course the divergences are also classifiable. It is for us to determine whether we will join forces that combine us or that separate us. We have much more in common than we can imagine!” he stated.

Cardinal Gracias also reminded the audience that talks could be held at various levels: talks of life by sharing in each other’s life, talks of action by undertaking joint programmes for common good, theological talks to find out the meaning of life, evil, suffering etc, and the talks of spirituality to share with each other the spiritual experiences.

“Together with the organisers of this Global Foundation for Civilizational Harmony, I send out an appeal: Let us together build a great India,” earnestly pleaded the Prelate.

Earlier, speaking as a chief guest, former President of India, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam urged to foster an “enlightened society” to promote world peace.

“It’s only through education based on value system, religions transformed into spiritual force and by eradication of poverty, true harmony can be achieved,” he insisted.

“War is the worst kind of violence and it solves no problems. We need to promote dialogue, justice, truth and compassion,” added Tibetan Buddhist leader Dalai Lama.

Founder of the Art of Living Movement, Swami Ravi Shanker said that life has a “certain amount of tension built into it”. While a Jain sees the inner reality as “empty”, a Vedanti would see it as “full”!

“Laziness of a lion preserves peace and harmony in the jungle”, he added.

He cheered all religious leaders to intervene in conflict zones to bring peace and social harmony.

Among the noted leaders present were: Swami Dayananda Saraswati, Yoga Guru Swami Ramdev, Akal Takt Head Priest Jathedar Joginer Singh Vedanti, Swami Paramahansa Nityananda, Mahmood Ali Madani, Rabbi Ezekiel Isaac Malekar and many others.
