New Delhi: 2 Catholic Priests Died In Road Accident Near Allahabad - CBCI

New Delhi:Two catholic priests of the diocese of Allahabad died of a road accident near Robertsganj in Uttar Pradesh last evening at 5 pm.

The victims, Father Oswald D’Souza (49) and Father Michael D’Souza (42) were travelling in a jeep driven by Fr Rajesh Simon. They were going to Allahabad for the priests’ monthly recollection.

As they reached Rajghad, about 240 km from Allahabad, while trying to save a cyclist, the vehicle went off the road and crashed into a tree.

Fr Oswald D’Souza died on the spot of head injuries and Fr Michael D’Souza, passed away in the nearby primary health centre at Anpara, 270 km away from Allahabad.

Fr Rajesh Simon who was at the wheel survived with minor injuries.

Fr Michael D’Souza was the parish priest and principal of a school and Fr Oswald D’Souza was parish priest and manager of another primary school.

Fr Oswald D’Souza was a native of Borimar parish and Fr Michael D’Souza of Moodubelle in Mangalore diocese.

Condoling the death of two priests, Bishop of Allahabd Isidore Fernandes said, “Both the priests were young and dedicated. The diocese has suffered a great loss in their death.”

The funeral service will be held today, Jan. 29 at the Allahabad cathedral church.
