Fish is prepared in countless ways in Konkani cuisine. The simplest method is to coat fish in red chili and turmeric and fry it crisp. More elaborate dishes include fish curry with kokum, prawn sukhe with coconut, and crab masala. The use of kokum gives the dishes their distinctive sour taste.

Shellfish Delicacies

Shrimp and prawns are popular in Konkani cooking. The dish called Sukhe is a dry preparation with minimal gravy, while the-curry uses coconut milk for a richer dish. Lobster is considered a delicacy and is often prepared simply to highlight its sweet flavor.
