Coir Products
Coir, extracted from coconut husks, is used to make a variety of products in Konkan. The fishing communities were among the first to use coir for making ropes and fishing nets. Today, coir is used to make mats, rugs, brushes, and decorative items that are exported worldwide.
Wood Carving
The wood carving tradition of Konkan is evident in the elaborate temple architecture and furniture making. Teak and mango wood are the preferred materials, with designs featuring floral motifs, mythological scenes, and geometric patterns. Traditional wooden toys, particularly the lacquered toys of Sawantwadi, are famous across India.
